Free Youth Soccer camp set for July 14-17
The Free Youth Soccer Camp is being offered again this year; sponsored by First Baptist Church of Vinton. The event is open to ages 4-12 and takes place July 14-17, from 6-8 pm.

E.C.H.O. Ministries to host open house July 10
The public is invited to E.C.H.O. Ministries’ Open House this Thursday, July 10, 10 am-8pm, located at 109 W 4th (formerly Mahood’s Shoes). Refreshments will be served, with drawings for door prizes throughout the day.
E.C.H.O. (Every Church Helping Others) Ministries, is made up of individuals from local congregations with the mission of showing mercy to those in need.

Slots remain for Vinton Unlimited Golf Tourney
The Vinton Unlimited 2014 Golf Tournament takes place next Friday, July 11.
Tee times for the 3-person best shot, pick-a-putt tourney are 2 and 5 p.m. at the Vinton Country Club.
Cost is $20 per person. Games, raffles, stake prizes and more are part of the event. Burgers and brats will be offered for sale.

Family Fun Day fund-raiser for Brandon Bank set for July 13
A Family Fun Day/Ice Cream Social sponsored by Brandon/Jefferson Twp. Historical Society will be held on Sunday, July 13th, 2014 from 12:30 – 3:30 pm at the Brandon Park.
There will be food, games and displays. Guitar and keyboard music by Larry Roster and Barb Riggle from 1:15 – 2:15 pm.
Come for lunch and enjoy the music and community fellowship.
BCHS to present genealogical program; Martha Long to offer intro to research
Martha Long, Genealogical Expert, will present a program at the Horridge House, 612 1st Ave, Vinton at 1:00 pm, Friday, July 18 to help anyone interested in discovering how to begin research your family’s history. Martha will provide tips and ideas to starting filling out your family tree. She will share what the newly organized Genealogical Center of the Historical Society housed at the Horridge House, has to offer to help you with your search.
CP Historical Society plans 'Victory Gardens' presentation, July 20
Continuing its World War II theme, the Center Point Historical Society is hosting a program on the home front and victory gardens on Sunday, July 20, at 2 p.m. at the Depot Museum in Center Point. Speaker will be Ellen Skripsky, a long time Master Gardener from Cedar Rapids.
With rationing, and transportation and labor shortages growing and preserving your own food was a no-brainer during World War II.
3rd annual Flaughless 5K set for Sept. 27
The family of Dan Flaugh, along with a variety of friends, is preparing to honor Dan's memory with the Third Annual Flaughless 5K. The event takes place at Riverside Park at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.
A group of participants is planning to ruck the route, carrying 30-pound packs as a sign of respect for soldiers

Second Annual Vikette Alumni Softball Game set for Aug. 2
The 2nd Annual Alumni Softball game will be played on Saturday, August 2nd at 6pm. Cost is $20 to play and includes an alumni softball t-shirt. There will be a gate fee to enter the game; cost TBA. July 4 Pool party begins at 10 a.m. Friday
The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department invites you and your family to come celebrate with us at the 4th of July Pool Party at the Vinton Community Swimming Pool! This party will feature all kinds of games, competitions and prizes and will take place from 10 AM - Noon on Friday, July 4th.
