Relay for Life: A time to remember, celebrate and fight back against cancer
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Benton County will be Friday, June 13, at the Benton Community High School Track, Van Horne.
The west entrance to the track is on north Main Street and, weather permitting, parking will be on the grass south of the track. The opening ceremony is at 6 p.m. Benton County American Legion members will participate in the flag raising.

Glow Ball Mini-Golf event set for June 6
This Friday, June 6th, the Vinton Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting its annual 'Glow Ball Mini-Golf' at the Vinton Skate & Activity Center Miniature Golf Course. Kablooey!!! Science Center presentation coming to Vinton June 11
The Science Center of Iowa (SCI) is bringing “Kablooey!,” its summer library program to the Vinton Public Library on June 11th at 10:30 AM
The “Kablooey!” program is part of SCI’s Science @ Your Site outreach, which brings fun, engaging experiments to schools and libraries across Iowa.
With the help of SCI’s trained outreach presenters, “Kablooey!” will take children on an exciting journey through the three main states of matter, culminating in the discovery of why things go “boom.
Pet microchip event set for Saturday, June 7
The Friends of the Shelter, Inc., invite area pet owners to a microchip event this Saturday, June 7. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the FOTSI downtown site at 211 W. 4th Street.
Cost is $25 per dog and $20 per cat and includes free registration into the 24 Pet Watch national data base.
Vinton Farmers Market kicks off season on June 5th
The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department will be kicking off another Farmers market season on Thursday, June 5th. The market will once again be at the Vinton Rail Road Depot from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. every Thursday through September 25th.
On June 5th patrons will be treated to the great sounds of the StraitRun Band. This talented and energetic family will be entertaining you throughout the evening while you enjoy a hot grilled sandwich from Merchants Grilling.
Better Tomorrows Board to meet June 4
The Better Tomorrows Board will be meeting on June 4th at the Kirkwood Vinton Center at 12:00 p.m. Topics of discussion will be Funding Sub-committee Recommendations; Web Site, Scholarships, Financials, Board Membership, Program Reports, FY ’15 Budget Approval, Staff & Board Evaluations and Site Visit Review Results.
